If you want to do something to help animals that have been abandoned, neglected or ill treated – and you have a few hours a week to spare – we'd love to hear from you. Even if you don't work directly with our rescued animals, there are many administrative tasks where volunteers are always needed and greatly appreciated!
Working with animals
You must be at least 16 years of age to work directly with the animals at the SPCA. Our Animal Care Centre appreciates the help of committed, capable volunteers who are willing to help with hands-on animal work. Or you can be trained to help conduct our pre-home inspections prior to animals being adopted, work in our Animal Hospital, accompany our
SPCA Mobile Clinics to provide health care, rescue animals with Inspectors, clean stables and care for horses ... it depends where we need help and what kind of work you prefer.

Working with people for animals
Perhaps you’d like to help out at events or join our Education Officers on their school visits. Or if you’re full of ideas and energy, maybe a fundraising project is for you!
Overseas volunteers
We welcome overseas volunteers who want help on a voluntary basis while on holiday in Cape Town. Dog walking and socialising cats are but two rewarding tasks which suit overseas volunteers who can’t commit to long-term volunteering.
Vets, veterinary students and veterinary nurses are always in need – so if you want to gain valuable experience, our Animal Hospital will welcome your help. Our resident SPCA vets supervise the efforts of volunteers.
