Queenie finds hope at SPCA Horse Care Unit

Queenie is an ex-carthorse surrendered to the SPCA by her owner who could no longer afford to keep her.

Stable master Louis Joubert describes her as having a sweet and forgiving nature who has crept into the hearts of HCU staff and volunteers.

“When she first arrived at the HCU she seemed hopeless. She was severely emaciated and her coat punctured with tears and wounds. She trusted no one and volunteers battled to get close to her. Queenie was very defensive and showed obvious signs of distrust in humans. However under the care of the SPCA HCU and through sheer determination by HCU staff and volunteers she has learnt to trust again and has blossomed into a loving sociable animal with lots of love to give” said Louis.

Queenie has been adopted by a kindhearted horse lover Mr Sherman and will soon live out the rest of her life on a charming farm in Malmesbury.
