Microchipping brings dogs home!
The effectiveness of microchipping was proved again when Ollie – an injured stray – was brought to the SPCA by a good samaritan. The nine-year-old Yorkshire Terrier had been found wandering the streets of Schaapkraal distressed and lost. Ollie’s microchip was detected when she received medical attention at the SPCA. Staff immediately scanned their Lost and Found database to search for Ollie’s owner – and discovered that the dog had been reported missing eight months previously. Ollie’s owners – the Connolly-Volbrecht family from Diep River – were thrilled to finally be reunited with their beloved pet. ‘We missed her so much and feared that we may never see her again ’ said Jane Connolly-Volbrecht. SPCA staff were equally delighted. ‘When we are able to reunite pets with their owners it is such a morale boost for us – especially since we see so many sad cases. We strongly recommend microchipping so that animals have a good chance of being reunited with their owners if ever they are lost ’ added Margie Ainscow Animal Centre Manager at the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.
