I'll be your best friend!

cute pup

There’s no better place to meet a best friend ... whether it’s a darling of a dog or a purrrfect cat you’re after.

Our Animal Centre’s full of beautiful cats, dogs, kittens and puppies – as well as other animals such as ducks, geese, rabbits, budgies and poultry. At any one time we can house around 300 dogs and 100 cats – so you can be sure of finding the pet that's exactly right for you.

Dedicated kennel staff aim to match furry and feathered friends with loving and responsible owners. Their efforts work hand-in-paw with our animal behaviourist, who assesses the temperament of each animal up for adoption, to see what kind of family the dog or cat would suit best.

That’s good news for families with young children, the elderly – in fact, anyone who really cares about finding the perfect pet.

More good news is that your SPCA friend is prepared for his or her new home by being sterilised, vaccinated, de-wormed, microchipped and given an ID disc.

How to adopt

Please fill in an adoption form (see below). This information helps us match you to the right pet.

Use the links on the right to see which animals need good homes now, or visit the SPCA to meet the animals available for adoption.

It costs R 425 to adopt a cat and R 470 for a dog. When applying to adopt a pet, please note that a deposit of R 100 is required, which is included in the total adoption fee. Kindly email proof of the deposit along with a completed application form to clientliaison@spca-ct.co.za or fax to 021 705 2127 for the attention of the SPCA Animal Centre.

If you feel walking through the kennels may be upsetting, you can make an appointment to meet a couple of animals (based on the information you’ve supplied on your adoption form) in the privacy of one of our exercise runs. This will give you time to get to know each animal and help you make your selection.

What happens next?

Once you’ve decided which dog or cat you’d like to adopt, one of our pre-placement officers visit your home.

This ensures that your property’s suitable for the animal concerned. We take into account:

  • Other animals in the family.
  • Children’s ages
  • Level of familiy’s activity (whether the dog will be regularly exercised)
  • How long the dog, especially a puppy, will be left alone
  • Size of property
